We examined the phagocytic capacity and receptor expression on neutrop
hils stimulated with Porphyromonas gingivalis soluble products. Stimul
ated neutrophils had decreased phagocytic capacities and altered expre
ssion of CR1, CR3, FcgammaRII, and FcgammaRIII. For cases in which TLC
K (N-alpha-p-tosyl-L-lysine chloromethyl ketone) neutralized the effec
ts of the stimuli, the P. gingivalis-derived factors causing the pheno
mena seem to be trypsin-like proteases.
