Abstract
A prototype time projection chamber, the first of this kind constructe
d in acrylic in order to be used as a low radioactivity, low energy de
tector, is described. A similar detector, of larger size, will be used
in experiments to measure the neutrino-electron scattering and to sea
rch for rare events such as neutrinoless double beta decay and dark ma
tter scattering. The behaviour of the chamber, filled with CF4 at 5 ba
r, which is an ideal gas for the study of the nu(e)e-BAR reaction, is
discussed together with the results obtained on the electron drift len
gth and on the energy resolution.
