Aa. Sippola et al., MYCOBACTERIUM-AVIUM ANTIGENURIA IN PATIENTS WITH AIDS AND DISSEMINATED MYCOBACTERIUM-AVIUM DISEASE, The Journal of infectious diseases, 168(2), 1993, pp. 466-468
A 22,500-Da antigen apparently specific to Mycobacterium avium, Mycoba
cterium intracellulare, and Mycobacterium scrofulaceum has been identi
fied by Western immunoblotting. By use of a dot immunoassay, this anti
gen was found in the urine of 64% of patients with AIDS and disseminat
ed M. avium disease. It was not found in the urine of healthy control
subjects. Detection of antigenuria might provide the basis for rapid d
iagnosis of M. avium disease in patients with AIDS.
