Kerr measurements are reported for a cyclic trimeric liquid crystal ab
ove the uniaxial nematic-isotropic phase transition temperature T(NI).
The inverse of the order-parameter susceptibility is found to be line
ar in temperature, such that the quantity T(NI)-T is less than 200 mK
, where T is the super-cooling limit of the isotropic phase. Well bel
ow T(NI) we observe textures consistent with a biaxial nematic phase.
