P. Viot et al., EXACT SOLUTION OF A GENERALIZED BALLISTIC-DEPOSITION MODEL, Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics, 48(1), 1993, pp. 480-488
We study a monolayer deposition model which generalizes both random se
quential adsorption and ballistic deposition: hard disks are dropped v
ertically and randomly onto a line; they can adsorb on the line either
by direct deposition or after rolling over preadsorbed disks. An exac
t solution is given for the gap distribution function and for the dens
ity of adsorbed disks. Properties of the system at or close to the jam
ming limit are discussed. This generalized ballistic-deposition proces
s leads to formation of connected clusters of all sizes: the time evol
ution of the cluster distribution is obtained analytically.
