USE OF THE TRANSFORM METHOD IN THE INTERPRETATION OF THE RAMAN EXCITATION PROFILES OF A BICHROMOPHORIC SYSTEM

The use of the transform method was extended so as to permit the treat ment of the resonance Raman effect with the participation of two inter fering electronic transitions. The relevant equations were tested in t he model system [Ru(bipy)2(violurate)]PF6, the Raman excitation profil es of which show clearly the presence of two chromophoric moieties. Th e present results strongly suggest that the two relevant excited state s participate by means of Albrecht's A terms, whereas the vibronic cou pling by the B term is not decisive. The independence of the two chrom ophoric moieties is reflected in distinct displacements of the respect ive potential minima.
