The ability to numerically simulate the whole flow field in stirred ve
ssels is fast becoming vital to their optimal design. Past attempts ha
ve adopted a steady-state, semi-empirical analysis requiring experimen
tally-based input in some form. In the present work, a numerical metho
d is developed for the computation of the full time-varying flow field
for both the fluid within the impeller passages and that outside. Res
ults of calculations are compared with experimental data for a model s
tirred vessel.
