THE PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF REDOX POTENTIALS TO VAT DYEING

Redoxpotential measurements at various concentrations and temperatures have been carried out for a number of reducing agents selected random ly to include the classical laboratory ones. This is to identify their ability for use and application in vat dyeing and also to obtain a co mparison with conventional reducing agent, Na2S2O4. From the redoxitra tion, the leucopotentials of the dyes were determined firstly with Na2 S2O4 and then with other reducing agents to assess their suitability. Using the appropriate dyeing process, the dyes were applied to pre-tre ated cotton materials which then subjected to spectrophotometric absor ption measurements.
