During the last 5 to 8 years the international interest in the topic o
f creativity has grown remarkably. Among others Weisberg's attempt to
destroy several ''myths'' about creativity and the cre-ative process h
as contributed to stimulating research and controverse discussions. Re
cent developments of creativity measuring instruments especially in Ge
rmany show that creativity is more than just divergent thinking - and
it is not only the interplay of convergent and divergent thinking wher
e the ''balance of opposites'', the dialectics in/of creativity become
obvious and substantial for creative activity, for the person as well
as for the process. In the paper a strong focus is laid upon the proc
ess; some recent new or re-formulations of theoretical approaches are
discussed more detailed, like Martindale's ''low arousal'' approach as
well as the application of chaos theory, others are mentioned shortly
, like the psycho-economic or investment approach, the adaptation of c
atastrophe and of quantum theory. Finally, a complex componential mode
l of creativity will be proposed.
