The question of a link of the use of the articulatory loop on the proc
ess of learning to read was evaluated in a training study of 75 kinder
garten children aging 5 and 6 years. The children were subdivided into
two groups both given training with identical plays and stories, but
only one group received a training relaying the rehearsal strategy. Th
e results showed clearly that improving rehearsal led to substantial i
mprovements in children's phonemic awareness skills. The author discus
ses the consequences on the prevention of reading disability.
