Abstract
In a previous paper, the first author described how an inhomogeneous c ontinuously varying dielectric profile may be inverted using a stepwis e successive refinement procedure when an open-ended waveguide is used as the source. In this paper, an alternative approach based on polyno mial characterization of the dielectric medium is discussed. It is sho wn that the method is more efficient and avoids the convergence diffic ulties of the previous one for most cases except for discontinuous or stratified profiles.
