The possibility of using high viscosity grades of hydroxypropylmethylc
ellulose (HPMC) as a film forming agent in a conventional coating proc
ess has been investigated. Ethanol/water mixtures having different wei
ght ratios (5 to 18) and containing up to 5% of HPMC revealed to be su
itable. The influence of some formulation additives (talc, PVP and pla
sticizers) on both the overall coating process and the in-vitro releas
e profiles of ketoprofen containing coated tablets was also investigat
ed and discussed.
