Ja. Jansen et al., HISTOLOGICAL AND HISTOMORPHOMETRICAL EVALUATION OF THE BONE REACTION TO 3 DIFFERENT TITANIUM-ALLOY AND HYDROXYAPATITE-COATED IMPLANTS, Journal of applied biomaterials, 4(3), 1993, pp. 213-219
The aim of this study was to investigate the bone response to three di
fferent types of titanium (Ti) alloys and hydroxyapatite (HA) coated t
itanium alloy by histological and histomorphometrical analysis. Theref
ore, implants made of these materials were inserted into the tibia of
rabbits. Implantation times were 6 and 16 weeks. The histological eval
uation included measurement of the amount of bone apposition and analy
sis of the bone reaction and interface characteristics around the impl
ants. The results demonstrated no marked differences in bony reaction
to the different implant materials. In addition, the HA coatings showe
d loss of thickness. (C) 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
