Abstract
Genetic algorithms (GAs) have been successfully applied to optimizatio n problems in a variety of applications in electromagnetics, In this p aper, GAs are used along with a gradient-based direct search technique . The proposed hybrid optimization procedure was found to be efficient in most of the application implemented The strengths of both techniqu es are used at different stages of the search. A magnetizer ex-ample i s presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed technique.
