Aa. Arkadan et al., EFFECTS OF CHOPPING ON CORE LOSSES AND INDUCTANCE PROFILES OF SRM DRIVES, IEEE transactions on magnetics, 33(2), 1997, pp. 2105-2108
A coupled Finite Element-State Space (CFE-SS) model of switched reluct
ance motor (SRM) drive systems is used to evaluate the impact of chopp
ing on the machine performance characteristics. The model is used to p
redict the impact of chopping on the machine inductance profiles, arma
ture currents, and core losses, The modeling environment utilizes an i
terative approach which includes the full impact of nonlinearities on
the machine magnetic circuit, that results in the nonsinusoidal nux de
nsity waveforms in the different parts of the machine, The modeling ap
proach is applied to a four phase SRM. Furthermore, the predicted resu
lts are verified by comparison to experimental data.
