This paper describes an analysis process for a novel rare-earth perman
ent magnet lifting device by using finite element analysis. In the pas
t ferrite and alnico magnets have been used in permanent magnet liftin
g devices which are extremely cheap compared to the neodymium-iron-bor
on magnets. Therefore optimized systems are not designed due to additi
onal costs involved in purchasing and carrying out finite element anal
ysis. Furthermore trial and error solutions have been associated with
such designs for a long time, but now finite element analysis can not
only enhance the design of the system but also predict whether the nem
design mill function according to specifications.
