Complete oxidation of ethanol, acetaldehyde, and a methanol-ethanol mi
xture over supported copper oxide, chromium oxide, and copper oxide/ch
romium oxide catalysts was investigated using a gradientless external
recycle reactor. The catalysts were characterized by BET surface area
measurement, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and ener
gy dispersive X-ray analysis. The effect of catalyst type and composit
ion, reaction temperature, and feed composition has been examined.
