This article reports the results from a number of international studie
s on attitudes to work. Among other features it reveals that: (1) Japa
nese employees place more value on their jobs than employees in other
countries. This difference, it seems, is not due to the variations in
social values, but to differences in training and in organizational cu
ltures. (2) Surprisingly, German employees seem to place less value on
work than employees in some other countries.
