A new Schiff base (H3L) has been obtained through the reaction of 2, 4
-dihydroxybenzaldehyde with anthranilic acid in alcohol. Complexes of
this Schiff base with a series of Ln (III) (Ln-La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy,
Ho, Er, Yb), which have not been reported previously, were synthesize
d using an improved method. The complexes [Ln(H2L)2NO3] have been char
acterized by elemental analysis, molar conductivity, TG-DTA, IR-, UV-s
pectra and NMR measurements. The ligand, which acts as tridentate in t
he complexes, forms a double six-membered ring structure with Ln (III)
. Experimental results show that these complexes can be used as a new
catalyst in the polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA).
