Jb. Ma et al., THE FORMATION, SEPARATION, AND STRUCTURAL ELUCIDATION OF THE SECONDARY SAPOGENINS OF GYPENOSIDES, Huaxue xuebao, 51(7), 1993, pp. 708-712
Gypenosides,a series of dammarane-type saponins from Gynostemma Pentap
hyllum (Thunb. ) Makino, were hydrolyzed with 5% sulfuric acid to affo
rd a new secondary sapogenin (20R, 25S)-12beta, 25-epoxy-20, 26-cyclod
ammarane-2alpha, 3beta-diol in addition to the known panaxadiol, 2alph
a-hydroxypanaxadiol, and (20R, 25S)-12beta, 25-epoxy-20, 26-cyclodamar
an-3beta-ol reported previously. The molecular structure of the new se
condary sapogenin was elucidated by means of spectroscopic methods and
X-ray crystallographic analysis.
