Abstract
New sterically highly hindered 2'-substituted 2,2'',6,6''-tetramethyl- m-terphenyls 1 were synthesized. Lithiation of the 2'-iodide 1b and su bsequent reaction with electrophiles gave new m-terphenyls 1f - 1j, gr oup transformations gave 1k - 1p. The thiol acetate 1o could be tetra- functionalized and doubly bridged to form a bimacrocyclic concave thio l acetate 3.
