Thermodynamic properties of vinylcyclohexane and polyvinylcyclohexane
were studied using adiabatic and isothermal calorimetry. The following
parameters were obtained: isobaric heat capacity C(p)0 of the monomer
at 10 - 330 K and of the polymer at 4 - 678 K; thermodynamic paramete
rs of melting of the monomer and the polymer; the parameters of glass
transition and of glassy polymer; combustion heat of the polymer. Usin
g the parameters measured, the thermodynamic functions H0(T) - H0(0),
S0(T), G0(T) - H0(0) were calculated for both the monomer and the poly
mer in the temperature range from 0 to 400 - 640 K. Thermodynamic para
meters of formation of polyvinylcyclohexane DELTAH(f)0 , DELTAS(f)0, D
ELTAG(f)0 at T = 298.15 K and p = 101.325 kPa were determined. Using t
he above data, the enthalpy, entropy, and Gibbs free energy for bulk p
olymerization of vinylcyclohexane were calculated over temperature ran
ge 0 to 400 K. The upper limit of the polymerization temperature was e
stimated.
