Abstract
Rapid progress has been made in recent years towards a better apprecia tion of the mechanism of cationic and anionic ring opening polymerizat ion (ROP) of cyclic monomers as well as devising new approaches to the synthesis of well defined polymers such as telechelics, macromonomers as well as block copolymers. This paper reviews the current understan ding of the ROP process based on extensive kinetic analysis. The synth etic applications of polymers derived from this process are highlighte d.
