A mathematical expression was previously derived for the concurrent de
termination of two rate constants, k1 and k2, for two consecutive irre
versible first-order reactions. This expression required the measureme
nt of slopes in order to ascertain the required reaction rates. In thi
s paper, a relational database manager (DB) was employed to estimate v
alues of the two rate constants using this expression. For this purpos
e, a computer algorithm was developed using the Paradox 3 DB which pos
sesses a powerful script language (PAL). Database analyses were carrie
d out using both theoretical and experimental data. The PAL script emp
loyed is described and the resulting k1 and k2 values are compared wit
h the assumed and reported values.
