Densities and viscosities have been determined for the two binary mixt
ures of methyl and ethyl benzoate in n-heptane at different concentrat
ions and temperatures. The corresponding excess properties and the act
ivation magnitudes were also calculated from the experimental data. Al
l excess properties, including the excess Gibbs free energy of activat
ion of flow, are negative over the entire range of compositions. The r
esults for these binary mixtures are compared with those for methyl be
nzoate with n-nonane, the molecular interactions occurring in the mixt
ures being explained on the basis of the deviation from ideality of th
e magnitudes studied.
