Abstract
When n = - 3, the Emden-Fowler equation, q + (k/t)q = sigmat(omega)q(n ), n not-equal 0, 1, sigma not-equal 0, generates the three-dimensiona l algebra sl(2, R) in which case general solutions are known for omega = - 2k. In a number of cases the equation admits one or two Lie point symmetries. In the case of one symmetry, the equation is reducible to a first-order Abel equation. The case of two point symmetries gives r ise to many previously unknown solutions.
