F. Dimario et al., EFFECTS OF H-2 BLOCKERS AND OMEPRAZOLE ON PEPTIC SECRETION - A PROSPECTIVE, RANDOMIZED STUDY IN DUODENAL-ULCER SUBJECTS, Acta Gastro-Enterologica Belgica, 56(2), 1993, pp. 223-228
Aim of the present study has been to investigate the possible modifica
tions of peptic secretion after a period with H-2 blockers and omepraz
ole, evaluating in the same patient pepsinogen group A levels in gastr
ic mucosa and pepsin in gastric juice. 54 active duodenal ulcer were s
tudied : during an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy a sample of gastri
c juice and one fundus biopsy were taken before and after four weeks 3
00 mg/daily ranitidine (23 patients), 40 mg/daily famotidine (7 patien
ts), 300 mg/daily nizatidine (12 patients) therapy and 40 mg/daily ome
prazole (12 patients) therapy. Results : H-2-blockers and omeprazole t
reatment determines a non statistically significant decrease of pepsin
in gastric juice and in pepsinogen group A in gastric mucosa.
