Abstract
It has been observed experimentally that a normal mesoscopic conductor coupled by a normal bridge to a superconductor with small dimensions can undergo a transition to states with either elevated or depressed c onductivity if the bridge is considerably longer than the coherence le ngth of the normal metal. The changes in the conductance are DELTAG = +/- 2 X 10(3) (e2/h).
