This paper presents a new absolute position recovery method for an aut
omated guided vehicle (AGV) which can move in any direction (free-rang
ing) on the floor using vision. The floor is permanently encoded with
the terms of a pseudo random binary array requiring only one bit of co
de per quantization interval, independent of the desired resolution.
