A potential application of the high-state point-contact technique deve
loped in Leiden to perform spectroscopy measurements of electron-phono
n interaction (EPI) and to study different mechanisms of electron scat
tering is discussed. The method modification proposed in the paper ren
ders it suitable for investigation of almost all conductors. At is sho
wn that the EPI spectra of high quality can be taken from noble metals
. The contacts of small diameter (< 30 angstrom) display a number of a
nomalies accounted for by both the existence or lattice defects in a m
icroneck area and the mesoscopic character of the objects under consid
eration. The method restrictions and some possible ways to improve the
method are considered.
