The inheritance of albinism in grass carp was investigated in a series
of spawns involving wild-type colored x wild-type colored, albino x a
lbino, wild-type colored x albino in both reciprocal combinations and
the back-cross albino X (wild-type colored x albino). The results of t
hese spawns showed that, as in rainbow trout, albinism is due to a sin
gle recessive allele at an autosomal locus. Total length of albino seg
regants was significantly less than that of wild-type segregants when
grown together in a cage.
