Abstract
The composite model of plastic deformation is extended so that the var iations with time of the volume fractions of hard and soft regions are taken into account. This is made possible by considering the contribu tion of subgrain boundary migration to the total strain. It is shown t hat the extended model can describe successfully the anomalous transie nt effects observed after an abrupt change in stress, as well as the a ccompanying changes in substructural quantities.
