P. Spatig et al., A NEW METHOD FOR ACTIVATION VOLUME MEASUREMENTS - APPLICATION TO NI3(AL,HF), Materials science & engineering. A, Structural materials: properties, microstructure and processing, 167(1-2), 1993, pp. 73-79
A new method is presented that allows the measurement of microscopic a
ctivation volumes which are typical of thermally activated dislocation
processes. It consists of a repeated relaxation test with constant du
rations, which start at a given stress level. The advantages of this m
ethod, as compared to a previous one which uses constant stress drops,
are outlined. The new method is successfully applied to the determina
tion of the transition stress between micro- and macro-plastic deforma
tion in the alloy Ni3(Al,Hf) at room temperature.
