S. Deepa et al., ENZYMATIC PRODUCTION AND ISOLATION OF D-AMINO ACIDS FROM THE CORRESPONDING 5-SUBSTITUTED HYDANTOINS, Process biochemistry, 28(7), 1993, pp. 447-452
A detailed process for the production of D-amino acids starting from t
he synthesis of 5-substituted hydantoin was established using whole ce
lls of Agrobacterium radiobacter. About 94% substrate turnover was att
ained at 30 mg/ml substrate concentration. On isolation and concentrat
ion of the end product, 65% recovery was obtained. The product was fou
nd to be 99% pure by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and
infrared (IR) analysis, and confirmed by optical rotation.
