In a study of 45 patients with anxiety disorders and 11 control subjec
ts, mean cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) concentrations of thyrotropin-relea
sing hormone (TRH) were not significantly different between nonpsychia
tric control subjects and those with panic disorder, generalized anxie
ty disorder, or obsessive-compulsive disorder. Male subjects, regardle
ss of diagnosis, had significantly higher mean CSF concentrations of T
RH than females.
