Abstract
The principal consideration in operating a coal preparation plant is t o maximise the yield of clean coal while reducing the impurities to an acceptable low level. So, for assessing the modifications in the exis ting flowsheet or to design a new circuit, modelling and simulation ar e needed. A mathematical model has been developed to simulate the coal flotation circuit. The model is based on the relationship between the cumulative recovery of a clean coal, R, and the number of flotation c ells, N: R = M[1 - (1 - P)N]. From the above relationship, the probabi lity, P can be calculated from the experimental values of cumulative r ecovery, R, and maximum possible recovery, M, for a given N.
