The results of densities, viscosities, refractive indices and ultrason
ic velocities of binary mixtures of 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene with n-hept
ane, n-octane, n-hexadecane and cyclohexane in the temperature interva
l 298.15-308.15 K have been used to calculate the excess molar volume,
excess molar viscosity, excess molar Gibbs energy of activation of fl
ow, isentropic compressibility and excess molar refraction. These resu
lts have been discussed in terms of specific and non-specific interact
ions. The measured properties of the mixtures have been fitted to empi
rical relationships wherein, the composition and temperature effects a
re involved. The analysis of various physical properties of mixtures r
evealed experimental evidence of molecular interactions between the mi
xing components. Attempts were also made to calculate the ultrasonic v
elocity of mixtures from Flory's equation of state.
