Abstract
Glass formation has been investigated in the binary systems GaF3-MF2 ( M = Ca, Sr, Ba) and GaF3-YF3 and in GaF3-SrF2-MF(n) (M = Mg, Zn, Ca, Y ). Glass transition occurs between 320 and 400-degrees-C. Fluorogallat e glasses are of potential interest as low phonon energy glasses for p assive and active optical fibers.
