Abstract
Preliminary materials results are reported of a study to develop novel fluoride glasses exhibiting maximum phonon energies lower than those of ZBLAN with the objective of realising an efficient optical amplifie r for the coveted 1.3 mum wavelength domain. Pertinent material attrib utes including peak phonon energy, 1G4 lifetimes and thermal propertie s are reported for each glass host.
