Tx. Zhang et al., OBLIQUE ION-ACOUSTIC-WAVE INSTABILITIES IN A MULTIION PLASMA AND HE-3-RICH EVENTS, Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 62(8), 1993, pp. 2545-2548
Oblique ion acoustic waves in a current-carrying, magnetized plasma ar
e investigated. For a multi-ion plasma whose dominant components are h
ydrogen and helium, it is found that for some plasma parameters, obliq
ue ion acoustic waves can have positive growth rates at frequencies om
ega congruent-to OMEGA(He-3) (He-3 cyclotron frequency) and, at the sa
me time, negative growth rates at omega congruent-to OMEGA(He-3). It i
s then suggested that these waves can play an essential role in He-3-r
ich solar flares.
