Abstract
Small production lots and product-specific characteristic features in manufacture require hot wide stainless steel strip production units sp ecially designed to meet customers' requirements. Previous inadequacie s of the Steckel mill have been eliminated. Modern hightech components derived froin the conventional hot strip mill. e.g. hydraulic roll ga p setting, automatic strip profile and flatness control systems, creat e the prerequisites for a clear improvement of product quality. Projec ts in Sweden and Taiwan confirm the suitability of this mill type. Con crete conceptions of the connection of the Steckel mill to modern thin slab and strip casting processes (CSP and CPR processes).
