A family of melt processable, wholly-aromatic thermotropic liquid crys
tal copolyesters are prepared, which are characterized by Fourier tran
sform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and pol
arized optical microscopy. The copolyesters exhibit broad nematic-meso
phase temperature ranges without isotropic transitions and excellent t
hermal stability. The kinetics of melt polycondensation of the copolye
sters is also investigated.
