We report measurements of the nuclear magnetic susceptibility of the m
onolayer two-dimensional solid formed by He-3 adsorbed on graphite pla
ted with two atomic layers of HD. A low-density solid is observed, con
sistent with a square-root 7 x square-root 7 registered structure, whi
ch exhibits large antiferromagnetic exchange. A distinct cusp in the s
usceptibility is observed near 1 mK, suggestive of a magnetic phase tr
ansition. The evolution of this and other features with surface densit
y is discussed.
