Abstract
In this paper we propose the use of angular-momentum-projected generat or coordinator method (GCM) wave functions for the evaluation of trans ition probabilities in heavy nuclei. We derive the relevant equations and discuss ways to cope with the technical difficulties which appear in the application of the theory. We show the feasibility of the metho d by applying it to the calculation of B(E3) transition probabilities in light nuclei within the GCM, in the gaussian overlap approximation (GOA). In the calculations we use the density-dependent Gogny force. T he theoretical projected results are in much better agreement with exp eriment than the unprojected ones.
