The objective of the presented project was to implement a system for t
he visualization of proposed buildings. To show a proposed building ex
actly as it would appear if built, it is necessary to include the curr
ent neighbourhood in the visualization. The software solution designed
permits creation of videos in which videotaped footage of the buildin
g site is merged with computer-generated images of the planned buildin
g. In order to overlay the video with computer-generated images, it is
necessary to compute the exact position, the viewing direction, and t
he adjustment of the zoom for every frame of the video. These paramete
rs can be calculated from the video images. This paper gives an overvi
ew of the basic concepts of move-X and describes a pilot project carri
ed out with the local government of Vienna.
