PROTECTION OF ANIMALS - CHALLENGE TO NEW FEDERAL STATES

An adequate position must be given to protection of animals in the new Federal States of Germany. This will require a critical review of the man-animal relationship by the general public and even more the veter inary profession. Priorities are suggested for change in keeping regim es, against the background of current procedures in livestock producti on. More attention should be given to aspects relating to protection o f animals also for keeping of domestic animals and pets, hunting and f ishing as well as in planning and practice of animal experiments.
