The simultaneous oscillations of the surface mass and the potential du
ring the galvanostatic oxidation of formic acid and 2-propanol in acid
media at a platinum electrode have been investigated by electrochemic
al quartz crystal microbalance technique. The experimental results pre
sented attest that the accumulation and consumption of chemisorbed spe
cies play a decisive role in the appearance of potential oscillation p
henomena in the course of the galvanostatic oxidation of simple organi
c compounds.
