THALLIUM(III) ACETATE OXIDATION OF SOME SUBSTITUTED-4-PIPERIDONES - AKINETIC AND MECHANISTIC STUDY

Kinetics of oxidation of 2,6 diphenyl-4-piperidone, 3-alkyl and 3,5-di methyl substituted 4 piperidones with Tl(III) in aqueous acetic acid ( 80%, v/v) in the presence of sulphuric acid (0.75 mol dm-3) at constan t ionic strength (mu=2.25 M) over the temperature range 30-55-degrees have been investigated. The reactions obey second order kinetics. Depe ndence on acidity is unity Added sodium sulphate does not have any eff ect. Activation parameters have been calculated and the structure-reac tivity relationships discussed. A mechanism involving fast enolisation step is postulated.
