B. Lal, YIELD AND QUALITY OF SUGARCANE (SACCHARUM-OFFICINARUM) AS INFLUENCE BY NITROGEN UNDER MOISTURE REGIMES, Indian Journal of Agronomy, 37(4), 1992, pp. 775-777
A field study was conducted during 1985-86 and 1986--87 to study the e
ffect of nitrogen and moisture regimes on yield and quality of 'CO 114
8' sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.). The cane yield was significan
tly increased with 75% available soil moisture compared with the contr
ol, 25 and 50 % available soil-moisture regimes. However, the moisture
regimes did not affect quality parameters significantly. The cane yie
ld increased with an increase in level of nitrogen. Higher doses of N
decreased brix value, sucrose (%) and purity (%), although the differe
nces were non-significant.
