Abstract
A rigorous electromagnetic model which considers both guided and semi- leaky modes of planar uniaxial optical waveguides with nondiagonal die lectric tensors is proposed. This model permits an excellent fit with the experimental results obtained from different high DELTAn(e) proton exchanged LiNbO3 waveguides and allows us to determine the rotation o f the principal axes which occurs for layers exchanged at low temperat ure.
